Company Description: Promatek Research Centre is a vibrant, fast paced R&D and Prototyping Division of MAGNA INTERNATIONAL.  We are a new 75,000 ft² division located in Brampton, Ontario at the corner of Steeles Avenue and Torbram Road.

Our main business focus at Promatek is to develop new Forming & Joining techniques for COSMA.  Promatek is equipped with several state of the art equipment, such as: 8000 tonnes Hydroforming press, THT Aluminum Die Casting machine, EM Trimming machine, CNC Rotary Draw Bender, 1600 ton stamping press, Laser, MIG, and Resistance welding equipment.  In addition, we are also prototyping new programs for some of our divisions.

Position Summary: The network administrator/ telecom administrator is responsible for the planning, analysis, upkeep and administration of all aspects of the data and voice network(s) in the facility.  Aspects include (but not limited to) servers, PC’s, workstations, printers, plotters, hubs, switches, routers, PBX’s, phones and cellphones.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree or equivalent community college focusing on specialized courses.
  • 1-2 years experience in information technology.
  • Extensive experience working with the analysis, design, evaluation, implementation and support of networking hardware, mid-range servers, PC’s, workstations and software.
  • Strong level of experience implementing fault-tolerant networks, fault monitoring, traffic analysis, switching/ routing technologies and network security.
  • Strong technical experience in complex TCP/IP environments (switched, routed, QOS and VLAN)
  • Strong experience working with telecommunications equipment such as PBX’s and digital circuits (PRI, BRI, DEA, T1, Frame Relay, 1FL) and voicemail.
  • Strong experience working with IEEE specifications for cabling systems including categories 3 to 6 cabling (CAT3-CAT6), BIX, Lucent 110 and fibre optics (multimode fibre).
  • Good knowledge of current information technology industry directions, as well as a strong vision towards future trends.
  • Ability to work closely and communicate with all groups within the company as well as with vendors and suppliers.
  • Must be very patient and have good interpersonal skills.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Network

  • Manage the analysis, design, evaluation, implementation and support network hardware, servers, PC’s, workstations, software, printers, plotters, PDA’s, MFC’s and other peripherals. Blackberry experience an asset.
  • Field questions and support calls in a “help desk” environment to assist managerial staff and end users.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Linux/ Unix Systems.
  • Maintain, administer and update all aspects of the internal data networking infrastructure including LAN, Firewall (Checkpoint), Aventail VPN, DUN, etc.
  • Strong experience with Windows 2003 networking including domain structures, active directory and name resolution.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Exchange required.
  • Some experience with legacy systems such as DOS 6.22, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, NT 4.0 and Windows 9X.
  • Familiar with different CAD applications such as AutoCAD LT, Mechanical Desktop, inventor Series, CATIA and various CAD file formats.
  • Test and evaluate new server, PC hardware and workstations and assist in setting and enforcing new company standards.
  • Co-ordinate all network changes and upgrades.
  • Implement reliable redundancy systems through fault tolerant wiring.
  • Implement backup solutions, off site storage, network security (both network level and domain level security).
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Abides by all plant safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Experience with wireless phones that use spread spectrum technology (Spectralink).
  • Install or Co-ordinate new wiring as needed for all data and voice applications including CAT3 to CAT 6 cables (FT4 and FT6 classifications).
  • Abide by all plant safety rules and regulations.
  • Set Workstations and Servers by Company, Dell, HP and IBM.
  • Install or co-ordinate printers, faxes, networking equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

EQUIPMENT AND/OR PRODUCT FAMILIARITY:

Equipment:  All IT equipment in the facility.

  • Windows 2000-2003 and active directory
  • Trend micro antivirus or comparable antivirus suits.
  • 3D model viewing software and general 3D CAD knowledge.

 

RESPONSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

The network Administrator is responsible for all aspects of communications within the facility both data and voice as well as assisting in the configuration, maintenance and administration of most computer and telecom equipment in the facility.
