SUMMARY: Youth Opportunities is seeking a dynamic Youth Consultant/Facilitator who will work primarily out of the Malton location and provide weekly rotations into the MEC campus location.  The Youth Facilitator/ Consultant will be responsible for job developing employment matches between job-ready youth and employers seeking to fulfill current job vacancies. Operating both independently and as part of the YO team, the Youth Facilitator/ Consultant will work with clients to provide: individualized career exploration and employment coaching sessions, maintain and update case notes on the YO web database, facilitate employment and life skills workshops and liaise with local employers.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Full-time Temporary
LOCATION:    Mississauga Executive Centre & Malton
REPORTING TO:    Coordinator, Youth Opportunities
START DATE:    February 5, 2009
END DATE:    September 30, 2009
HOURS:    35 hours per week
SCHEDULE:    Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
SALARY RANGE:    $48,794 to $50,250 per annum (depending on experience)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES    

•    Research, plan and deliver employment, career exploration and life skills workshops
•    Provide one-on-one employment and career coaching sessions  to youth participants
•    Facilitate workshops /coaching session on topics including: job search skills, employability skills, career exploration, life skills, money management, employment standards, job retention and workplace safety
•    Complete employability skills profiles and assessments with each client, maintain case notes and screen potential clients
•    Assist employers with the wage subsidy application process
•    Maintain and update the YO month end statistical reports
•    Conduct outreach and liaise with local employers and industry specialists
•    Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:    

•    Minimum 2 years experience in facilitating to a youth audience and providing one-on-one coaching
•    Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and team work skills
•    Possess a motivating, engaging and energetic facilitation and coaching style
•    Patient and empathetic able to attend to the needs of a diverse client group
•    Experience facilitating job search topics and providing employment coaching/counselling sessions
•    Knowledge of assessment tools and statistical tracking
•    Experience in job development with a focus on youth is an asset
•    Flexibility surrounding work schedules; willingness to work occasional events and conduct marketing and outreach activities as needed
•    Post-secondary Degree or Diploma is required
•    Personality Dimensions Certification, Life Skills Certification and/or other career assessment  tools would be an asset
•    Valid Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
