Mrs Yvonne Fernandes (nee De Souza)

July 6 1945 – March 21 2017
Toronto, Canada (ex Tanzania/Kenya)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Yvonne after a long battle with cancer. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family.  Yvonne was a loving mother to Melvin and Brandon (Mia) and grandmother to Sierra-Jasmine and Sean.

Daughter of the late Julius and Dylia De Souza.  Sister to Mabel, Late Irene (Late Adrian Pereira), Doris, Edwin (Georgina De Souza) and Tessie (Late Leopold Gracias). Aunt to Late Stanley, Silvie, Charmaine (Eric St-Jean), Elsa, Genevieve and Lauren.  Grand Aunt to Shaun, Zachary and Christopher. She will be dearly missed by her family and in-laws, in Toronto and Dar es Salaam.

Walter Hayde – A Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and inspiring community leader, Walter Hayde.

Walter passed peacefully the morning of March 8, 2017 surrounded by family and close friends.

On October 16, 1952, Walter was the first born to Sheila and Brigadier Desmond Hayde followed by his younger brothers, Michael and Norman.

On May 24, 1977, he married AnnaRita Gonsalves with whom he shared almost 40 years of marriage. Together, they raised three daughters, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Michelle. Walter is also a proud grandfather of two loving grandsons, Eric and Joseph.

Walter enjoyed a successful career in sales that carried him from India to Dubai before settling down in Canada. His 20 years in real estate was inspiring to many. He was inclusive of all, supported many communities and was a kind, generous individual who volunteered at every opportunity.

With courage and dignity, Walter fought his eight month battle against pancreatic cancer. He was always positive and stayed strong for his family until the very end.

Walter will be missed by his family, friends and associates for his zest for life, his passion to help others and his charismatic personality.

Teotonio (Teo) Gomes

Formerly of Nairobi, Mombasa, and Dar es Salaam; born in Aldona, Goa, on February 10, 1916.

Teo passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on March 8, 2017. He was the beloved husband of the late Effie; loving father to Ivo, Francis (Jennifer), Phil (Vernon) and Joyce; devoted grandfather to Melanie (Del), Hayley (Stuart), Anil (Sue), Nikhil (Mary Anne), Natasha, Christine (Reggie), Jonathan and Christopher (Yi-Mei); doting great-grandfather to Brooke, Jessica, Grace, Rosa, Anna, William, Nia, Noah and Ethan.

Friends and family will be received at the Highland Funeral Home, Scarborough Chapel, 3280 Sheppard Avenue East (Sheppard/Warden), on Sunday, March 12, 2017, from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm.

The funeral mass will take place on Monday, March 13, 2017, at Good Shepherd Parish, 21 Simonston Boulevard, Thornhill, at 10:00 am. Interment at Highland Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Society of St. Vincent de Paul or Covenant House.


ALOYSIUS (ALU MENDONCA)

Died peacefully at Nairobi Hospital in Nairobi Kenya on March 10, 2017. Alu was considered the world’s greatest hockey left wingers and represented Kenya in four Olympics from 1956 to 1968 and then coached the national team in 1972 and 1976.

Beloved husband of the Late Alba, cherished father of Derek (Rosalynn) Erika Mendonca-DeSilva(Julius)

Cora Lisa Baretto (Shaun) along with grand kids Nicola, Angelica, Tyson, Jadon and Chloe and loving brother to Dr. Pius (Late Monika), Annie D’sa (Late Alex) and Teresa Mendonca-Mandricks (Ron). Teresa is a member of the GOA.

Missed by nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family.

Funeral Service at 11 a.m. on Monday 13 March at Holy Trinity Catholic Church , Nairobi.

Helen Tecla Franco

February 18, 2017 – Pickering – FRANCO, Mrs. Helen Tecla nee Madeira (ex-Dar-es-Salaam ) passed away peacefully at the Ajax/Pickering Hospital
with her family by her side at the age of 82.
 
Wife of the late Voluziano Franco, Helen is survived by her children, Wilma/Bosco Moniz, Valerie/Don Bilenduke and Vence Franco
