Goa-America Heart Foundation (GAHF) is a not-for-profit organization, established to promote affordable cardiac care in Goa. Dr. Neville Mascarenhas, interventional cardiologist practicing in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the U.S.A. initiated the project. Establishment of a cardiac center is part of a two phase project.

At the present time, we have successfully established an outpatient diagnostic clinic on the premises of the JMJ Hospital at Porvorim, Bardez, Goa.  Dr.Jyoti Kusnur, the clinic cardiologist, along with Dr. Mascarenhas and the representatives of the Archdiocese of Goa, inaugurated the clinic in January 2009. The rooms allocated for the clinic have been refurbished, all necessary equipment such as stress test machine, echo machine, ventilator, etc. has been purchased and the staff has been selected.  The clinic is scheduled to be operational in second quarter 2009.  In order for the clinic to be functional we have to raise U.S. $45,000 by end of March 2009 for operating expenses.

Funds are also being raised for the second phase which is the construction of the stand-alone, state-of-art cardiac center. The estimated cost is U.S. $3.5 million for the facility, as the land has been generously donated by the Archdiocese of Goa.

GAHF has two linked organizations; U.S.A. based GAHF, Inc. has 501©3 tax-exempt status and its main function is to raise funds for the project.  Goa-America Heart Foundation Trust (GAHFT) based in Goa has 80G tax-exempt status and is involved directly in the construction of the facility, acquisition of equipment, hiring of staff and supervising and monitoring the clinic and the cardiac center. Both organizations allow tax deduction for all donations.
