Source: Times of India PANAJI: The Goa police have started massive combing operations since Thursday night in the wake of the Mumbai terror strikes and detained 76 people so far.
The police are focusing on the movement and whereabouts of outsiders. At a high-level meeting of security officials convened by the CM, they were told to go about their job sincerely and to ignore any pressure from political quarters, a source said. “Crack down on suspects heavily,” CM Digambar Kamat said.
Assembly speaker Pratapsingh Rane, who also attended the meeting, asked the police to be vigilant and act quickly before any Mumbai-type incident can take place in the state. He voiced concern over the “lethargic attitude” of the police, sources said. The 76 detained so far are from Chimbel shanties, on the outskirts of Panaji. Similar operations will be undertaken in some other areas as well, an official said.
